Monthly Microsoft License Update August 2024
Welcome to the August 2024 instalment of the Microsoft Product Terms Update from the Version 1 Microsoft License Consulting Team. Each month, Microsoft releases license changes on their product terms — this month sees a variety of updates to both product terms and supporting license briefs. Learn more about these changes in this blog or by watching this short YouTube video below.
Universal License Terms for Online Services
Microsoft has updated their Generative AI Services Use of Content for Training section. The July product terms explicitly mention an exception where customers may use the generated output content to fine-tune AI models, but only to the extent expressly permitted in the Azure OpenAI Limited Access registration form. The August 2024 version removes this exception, implying a more restrictive policy where such use cases are not permitted.
Privacy & Security Terms
Microsoft has added Microsoft Defender Experts to the Core Online Services table and Security Practices and Policies for Core Online Services.
Microsoft 365
Microsoft has updated the prerequisite eligibility for Copilot for Sales and Copilot for Service to include all Office 365 and Microsoft 365 subscription suites, commercial and academic.

Microsoft Intune
Frontline Worker products have been added to the Microsoft Customer Agreement availability table which is essentially an introduction of new Intune SKUs specifically for Frontline workers.
Microsoft Azure
Microsoft has added Use of Content for Fine-Tuning to Azure OpenAI Services section and have moved Azure AI Content Safety under Azure AI Services section. Under the first part of that update; ‘added the use of content for fine tuning to Azure OpenAI Services section’, Microsoft customers can use the Azure OpenAI service to create synthetic data solely to fine-tune certain model types and describes how they can be used in that context. The second part of that update is simply that they’ve moved Content Safety to Azure AI Services section.
